Stoneybridge — Kitchen Remodel in Minnetonka, MN

Kitchen Remodel

Stoneybridge

Minnetonka, MN2022Design by Maria Palmer

The Stoneybridge kitchen in Minnetonka was the kind of project that kitchen designers dream about: a generous footprint, excellent natural light, and homeowners with a clear vision and the willingness to invest in quality. The existing kitchen was functional but dated — standard cabinetry, laminate countertops, and a layout that didn't take full advantage of the space. The homeowners wanted a kitchen that would serve as the home's social center, a space where cooking was a pleasure and entertaining was effortless. MSP Homes delivered a kitchen that exceeded every expectation.

The Challenge

The Stoneybridge kitchen's primary challenge was its success: the homeowners had high expectations, a generous budget, and very specific ideas about what they wanted. Managing those expectations — and occasionally pushing back on design choices that wouldn't have served the space well — required the kind of honest, collaborative relationship that MSP Homes builds with every client. The technical challenges included a complex island configuration, the integration of professional-grade appliances, and the design of a butler's pantry in an adjacent space that needed to function as both prep space and storage.

Our Approach

How we solved it

Maria's design approach for Stoneybridge was to create a kitchen that felt custom-built for the family's specific lifestyle. The homeowners love to cook and entertain — so the design prioritized prep space, storage, and the social experience of cooking with guests nearby. The cabinetry was designed to go full-height to the ceiling, with glass-front upper cabinets that display curated dishware. The butler's pantry was designed as a fully functional secondary kitchen: a second sink, a second dishwasher, and ample storage for entertaining supplies.

Project Highlights

Full-Height Custom Cabinetry to the Ceiling

The Stoneybridge kitchen's most impactful feature is its full-height cabinetry — custom shaker-style cabinets that extend from counter to ceiling, with glass-front upper cabinets on either side of the range that display curated dishware and break up the visual mass of solid cabinet doors. The full-height treatment creates a sense of grandeur and provides significantly more storage than standard upper cabinets. Brushed brass hardware ties the cabinetry to the rest of the home's palette.

Quartz Waterfall Island with Seating for Six

The island is the social center of the Stoneybridge kitchen. At 12 feet long, it seats six comfortably and provides an expanse of prep space that makes cooking for a crowd genuinely enjoyable. The quartz countertop — a dramatic Calacatta gold with bold veining — wraps over the ends of the island in a waterfall edge, creating a sculptural quality that makes the island feel like a piece of furniture rather than a kitchen fixture.

Butler's Pantry with Second Sink and Dishwasher

The butler's pantry adjacent to the kitchen is a fully functional secondary prep space: a second sink, a second dishwasher, a beverage refrigerator, and ample storage for serving pieces, glassware, and entertaining supplies. The pantry allows the main kitchen to be cleared and reset between courses during dinner parties — a detail that transforms the entertaining experience from stressful to seamless.

Professional-Grade Appliances

The Stoneybridge kitchen was equipped with a 48-inch professional range with six burners and a griddle, a built-in refrigerator with custom panel fronts that match the cabinetry, a built-in microwave drawer, and a wine refrigerator in the island. The appliances were selected for performance first and aesthetics second — but the result is a kitchen that looks as professional as it cooks.

The Result

The Outcome

The Stoneybridge kitchen remodel is one of MSP Homes' most ambitious and most successful projects. The homeowners got exactly what they asked for: a kitchen that functions as the home's social center, where cooking is a pleasure and entertaining is effortless. The full-height cabinetry has become a design signature that guests comment on immediately. The butler's pantry has transformed the way the family entertains. And the professional-grade appliances have made the homeowners better cooks — which may be the highest compliment a kitchen remodel can receive.

"MSP did a fabulous reconstruction of our kitchen! Scott Palmer was very flexible to work with. We especially appreciated working with his designer. We highly recommend him."
