The Dynamic project in Lakeville was a home that had potential but lacked personality. The main living areas were generic builder-grade, the master bedroom felt like a hotel room, and the basement was an unfinished space the family wasn't using. The homeowners wanted drama, warmth, and spaces that reflected their bold design sensibility — and they found in MSP Homes a team willing to match their ambition.
The Dynamic home's challenge was not structural but aesthetic: how do you give a builder-grade home a genuine design identity without a complete gut renovation? The homeowners had a clear vision — dark, dramatic, warm — but translating that vision into specific material and design choices required the kind of design guidance that MSP Homes provides as part of every project. The basement was an additional opportunity: unfinished square footage that could be transformed into a media room, playroom, and additional living space.

Master bedroom — dark stained ceiling beams, custom upholstered headboard wall, layered lighting
How we solved it
Scott and Maria embraced the homeowners' appetite for bold design choices. Dark ceiling beams in the master bedroom, a custom built-in entertainment center with integrated lighting, and a playroom designed to delight their kids — every space was given a strong design identity. The basement was finished to add a media room and additional living space, effectively increasing the home's usable square footage by a third. The guiding principle was that every room should have a moment — a design decision that makes it memorable.
The master bedroom was transformed with dark stained ceiling beams, a custom upholstered headboard wall, and layered lighting that creates a warm, intimate atmosphere. The beams — a detail that required careful structural assessment before installation — changed the entire character of the room. The adjoining master bath was rebuilt with a walk-in shower and double vanity, maintaining the dark, sophisticated palette of the bedroom.
The main living area's focal point is a custom built-in entertainment center with integrated lighting, display shelving, and concealed storage. The built-in is designed around the family's specific TV size and entertainment equipment, with cable management built in from the start. The dark finish and integrated lighting make it a design feature as much as a functional piece.
The unfinished basement became a fully realized lower level: a media room with a projector screen and tiered seating, a playroom with built-in storage and a chalkboard wall, and a full bathroom. The design uses the same warm, dark palette as the main level, with LVP flooring that handles the moisture of a below-grade space while looking like the hardwood upstairs.
The playroom is one of the most joyful spaces in the MSP Homes portfolio. A chalkboard wall, built-in toy storage at kid height, a reading nook with a window seat, and durable LVP flooring create a space that's designed for how kids actually play. The design is intentional: every element serves a purpose, and the room will grow with the children as they age.
The Result
The Dynamic whole-home remodel gave a builder-grade Lakeville home a genuine design identity — one that reflects the family's bold sensibility and serves their specific lifestyle. The master bedroom is now the retreat they always wanted. The basement has added a third of the home's usable square footage. And the playroom has become the kids' favorite place in the world. It's the same house — just the best version of itself.
"We wanted our home to feel like us — bold, warm, and a little dramatic. MSP Homes understood that completely and delivered spaces that we're genuinely proud of. The basement alone was worth the entire project."
